Now for what we did in class. Today in class we went on to finish off quadtractic equations, the last thing we had to cover was Transformation of Quadtractic Functions 3 and Applications(Located on page 34).
Example 1 The Formula is f(x)=a(x - h)² + k Vertex = -b/2a
f(x)=ax² + bx + c
1. Find the Vertex f(x) = ax² + bx + c
2. Factor out the a f(x) = a(x² + (b/2a)² + c
3. Complete The Square (b/a ÷ 2 )² = (b/2a)² = b²/4a²
4. Add b²/4a² to both sides f(x) = a(x² + b/a x + b²/ 4 a² + C - b²/ 4a²
5. Factor the whole equation f(x) = a(x + b/2a)² + c - b²/4a²
Awnser: H = b/2a K = C- b²/4a²
Example 2 Same Formula As Above
f(x) = 2x² - 4x + 1
1. Subsitute b by -4 and a by 2: - (-4) / 2(2)
2. Evaluate the equation: 4/4 = 1 x = 1
3. Put 1 in subsitute for x f(x) = 2(1)² - 4(1)1
4. Evaluate 2 - 4 + 1 = -1
Vertex = (1,-1)
At the end of this unit we have covered alot of stuff including Domain, Range, Vertex, Axis of Symmetry, x-intercept(s), y- intercept, Zeros, Minimum and Maximum Value, and Completing the square Perfect squares. There arer a few that i missed. Some sites that have helped me get through this unit are.
Some of these sites you need to sign up but not for Khanacademy.
Homework
The Home work was to do the remaining examples from page 35 - 38.
Assignment 1 Quadratic Functions is due on October 8th which is this friday.
